I ran my first 5K this morning! It was so much fun! My goal initially was just to finish. Then, as I started training, thought, "No, I should set a goal time." So I did. Thought a reasonable goal for me was 35 minutes. On Thursday afternoon, my right shin was absolutely killing me. No idea what happened (shin splints?) Ran two miles in terrible pain. So after a stiff regimen of ice and Motrin the last 36 hours and questioning whether I could/should do it this morning, I set off. I completed the race unofficially in 32 minutes. Pretty proud of myself and actually, my leg held up nicely. Sore....but not painful. And I raised $400 to support the Susan G. Komen foundation, so that feels good. Thanks to those who donated.
Ronnie was awesome getting all the kids off to Clay's football game EVEN with this huge stumbling block. (Nothing's ever easy, right?) So I parked at our church at 6:45 this morning where I met my friend who drove us downtown for the race. No problem, right? Wrong! At 8:00, my former coworker called the house, asking Ronnie about our car being parked there. Unbeknownest to us, our church was hosting the funeral for a fallen Pahrump police officer today at 10:00 and I had parked in the reserved police parking. Who knew? (Just in case you're wondering, there were no signs/markings/whatever. We didn't even know our church was hosting the funeral.) So Ronnie packed up all the kiddos who hadn't even had breakfast yet (except Gaby), and drove 20 minutes to the church to move the car about a quarter-mile away. Poor family! I felt so bad! But the kids got McDonald's out of it and Super Dad still got the kids to the football field on time.
Proud of all of us! And so far so good....three napping kids and hoping they'll be two napping parents soon too!
Congrats on the 5K! That is exciting.. I'm not a runner but I'm tossing around some fitness goals of my own these days so that encourages me to keep on keeping on :) And congrats to Ronnie on performing like a SAHM today, obstacles and making it to the field on time. Excellent work, Hawkins family.
